About the program
The mission of the Master of Health Administration (MHA) program is to prepare individuals for leadership positions in contemporary health-care organizations and systems. Graduates will obtain employment in a wide variety of facilities and settings including, but not limited to, hospitals, nursing homes, consulting firms, physician practices, health-maintenance organizations and health departments. These individuals will be highly valued, due to their knowledge of the evolving health-care environment, as well as their ability to apply this knowledge to solve complex problems, meet organizational goals, and improve the health status of individuals and populations within their specific domain or industry segment. The faculty are committed to promoting the professional and personal growth of these individuals through the development of teaching, research and service activities in universities, health-care organizations and associations, and community settings.

The contemporary and rigorous curriculum of the Master of Health Administration (MHA) program at Ohio University, delivered in a professional learning environment, prepares students for entry-level and mid-level management positions within the field of health services administration.

The full-time MHA, leading to a master's degree in health administration, is a 12-month, 60-quarter-hour program (after prerequisite work).

Admission
Admission to the MHA program is competitive. While many students enroll in the program with a bachelor's degree in health administration, others come from a variety of undergraduate backgrounds.

The following qualifications are required for admission:

• A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year institution (or an indication that the degree will be completed before you begin graduate study)
• An overall grade-point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) for your last 90 quarter hours or 60 semester hours of study 
• A satisfactory score on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or the Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
• Completion of undergraduate prerequisites in statistics, management, and accounting, with grades of "C" or higher, no later than the summer before enrollment.

The following materials must be received before your application can be considered for admission:

• A completed application from Ohio University's Office of Graduate Studies.
• GMAT or GRE scores
• Official transcripts from each post-secondary institution attended (You need not submit transcripts of coursework completed at Ohio University)
• An essay identifying your career goals and objectives
• A resume detailing your professional work experience
• Three letters of recommendation from persons qualified to evaluate your capability for graduate study
• TOEFL scores (for international students)

Full-time students are admitted for fall quarter only. You must complete the application process by Feb. 1. For more information on submitting an application, contact the Office of Graduate Studies or the health administration graduate coordinator.

Financial aid
The School of Public Health Sciences and Professions awards graduate assistantships and tuition scholarships to qualified students. An application for these types of aid is included in the graduate admissions application. In addition, student loans, work-study programs, and other forms of assistance are available through the OU Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships.

Curriculum
The curriculumemphasizes administrative theory and function. The coursework is designed to provide insight into the concepts and practices upon which health administration is based.

The MHAprogram requires prerequisite introductory courses in statistics, management and accounting. These courses must be completed with grades of "C" or higher from an accredited undergraduate institution. Students may apply to the program prior to completion of the prerequisites. Also, although not required, it is recommended that applicants have exposure to courses in communication, microeconomics and information systems. The remainder of the program is sequenced as follows. A total of 60 hours is required for the MHA degree.

MBA/MHA OPTION

NOTICE:

***WE ARE NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THIS PROGRAM***

Students have an option to complete requirements leading to dual degrees: master of business administration and master of health administration (MBA/MHA). The option is a 24-month, 132-quarter hour program.

The dual-degree option provides a solid basis in the concepts and practices upon which health administration is based, along with a business program that stresses producing a competent, ethics-oriented general manager with the appropriate skills and expertise to manage in a competitive global environment.

The full-time MBA program is a lock-step 72 -credit- hour, four-quarter program. It beginsSept. 1 and ends the following August. Students admitted to the MBA program without an undergraduate background in business must begin in June with an intensive 10-week prerequisite program.
